Pressure cap

One of the most underrated parts of a properly functioning cooling system is the pressure cap or radiator cap. In addition to protecting the cooling system against excessive pressures, it provides the water pump with pre-pressure and protection against vacuuming.

As the entire cooling system heats up and cools down, the density of the coolant, in most cases water/glycol or water/ELC, will vary. In order for everything to work properly, an optimal working condition of the water pump is important.

In order to guarantee a long pump life and to minimize cavitation (imploding of air bubbles), it is essential that the pump has the correct pre-pressure (head) to pump the desired flow rate through the entire cooling system. All this, including venting the radiator and the engine, is achieved by the pressure cap.

Oversluizen manufactures a large part of its pressure caps in stainless steel 316, suitable for the maritime industry.
