Cooling units for Crashtender fire fighting vehicles
E-One Titan HPR 8×8 Crashtender
This tanker vehicle was especially designed for airfields, for fast response during disasters, with a capacity of 12.500 liters of extinguishing water and 780 liters of foam. Powered by a 1000 pk strong MTU 12V2000, this vehicle reaches speeds up to 125 km/h in unloaded state and an acceleration of 0-80 km/h in 26 seconds. Despite the extremely high ambient temperatures (45°C < T > 50°C), the designed cooling package provides sufficient cooling to enable performance of all tasks.
Specifications
The strict specifications are processed and calculated a program which was designed in collaboration with prof. dr. eng. T.H. van der Meer of the Technical University Twente. In addition to the cooling power, this program calculates the internal pressure drop and the static resistance. With a combined cooling power of 871 kW, this package has sufficient surface to generate sufficient cooling up to peak temperatures of 60°C.
Powered by 2 temperature controlled hydro-engines, the cooling package doesn’t produce more sound than required to achieve the set power. This benefits the noise production when the engine is idle.
With a total surface of ± 4 m² the package has an average cooling power of ± 220 kW/m^2.
The vehicle has proven itself in the past couple of years, by reaching the target both on the road and off-road. This type of crash tender ended up being installed on all military and international airfields in the Netherlands.
