Expansion tanks / toptanks

The function of the expansion tank is essential and is often not recognized as such. This vessel ensures proper operation of the water pump and compensates for the volume of the liquid when it has reached operating temperature. It also ensures constant head and protection of the cooling circuit.

Differences per motor brand and for electric motors

Oversluizen develops specific expansion tanks (top tanks) for both Oversluizen coolers and others. It is possible to manufacture the expansion tank in steel, stainless steel 304 or 316 or in aluminum. Per engine brand there are certain requirements for minimum deaeration diameters from the engine, line-up or (test) pressures and/or specific pressure caps. Many of the pressure caps or radiator caps used are available as standard in stainless steel 316.

Standard version

The following may be seen as ‘standard’:

  • material: steel (also possible in stainless steel 304 / stainless steel 316 / aluminium)
  • removable filler neck (easy to change without dismantling the tank itself)
  • SS316 Pressure cap / radiator cap
  • built-in Murphy level switch (EL150K1 also available in Atex)
  • mounting strip to be specified with order

Special wishes and requirements

In addition to ‘standard’ versions, Oversluizen can supply expansion tanks that are specifically developed for the application, such as extra bulkheads, higher working pressures, locations of connections, extra connections and combined top tanks (HT+LT).

Maritime, Atex and saline environments

In addition to all the options, there is also a converted Atex Murphy available that is suitable for Atex II 3 G Ex dc ec IIB T6 Gc (European Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX 114)). Expansion tanks can be performed in C5m-High coating.
